Upon the recommendation of the Foreign Missions Board, Mike and Miriam Sponsler were reappointed as UPCI missionaries to Argentina in September 2006. The Sponslers were originally appointed in September 1981 to Ecuador where he evangelized, planted churches, trained ministers, and coordinated a Bible correspondence program with 120 students. After a term in Ecuador, they transferred to Argentina for two years but then returned to Ecuador. In 1992 they resigned from missions and assisted in Miami, Florida, before assuming the pastorate of Apostolic Worship Center in Greshem, Oregon. After pastoring AWC for ten years, the Sponslers returned to Argentina in January 2006 as associates in missions. They evangelized and taught in the Bible school while awaiting their full appointment. Mike and Miriam Sponsler have two sons who live in Concord, California.
